Reference resources

  • Educator's Reference Desk : Links to resources on a variety of educational issues.  Collection includes Internet sites, educational organizations, and electronic discussion groups.  Also provides Lessons Plans and an archive of questions related to the practice, theory and research of education.
  • Educator's Reference Complete: A collection of peer-reviewed, full-text articles in HTML and PDF format covering issues related to education at all levels; intended primarily for academic researchers. This collection is part of the larger Academic Onefile database.

  • Education World
    An electronic magazine focusing on educational issues and search engine and subject-browsable catalog of over 120,000 web sites related to education.

Research Databases

  • CBCA - Canadian Education:   Focuses on Canadian information in the field of education. Appropriate source for those interested in teaching, educational research, and educational administration in Canada.
  • Education Abstracts: Covers educational information from preschool through college.  Titles are indexed from 1983 to the present. Many articles are full-text.
  • Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC): An online digital library of education research and information, sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education. Available through both FirstSearch and CSA interfaces.
  • Mental Measurements Yearbook:  Produced by the Buros Institute; contains fulltext information about and reviews of all English-language standardized tests covering educational skills, personality, vocational aptitude, psychology, and related areas as included in the printed Mental Measurements Yearbooks.
  • PsycINFO:  Contains international psychology information, including education-related information, including dissertations, book chapters, peer reviewed articles, and reports.
  • Theory Into Practice Database (TIP): Contains brief summaries of 50 major theories of learning and instruction which can also be accessed by learning domains and concepts.

  • Education Resource Organizations Directory: Find organizations that provide information and assistance on many education-related topics, such as multicultural education, standards, and teaching methods.  Find regional education laboratories, national research centers, professional research organizations and more.

  • Canadian Education on the Web: Canadian education-related information on the World Wide Web. Includes educational organizations, universities and colleges, ministries of education, educational networks, education libraries, distance education, databases, clearinghouses, and more.
  • Canadian Information by Subject: Resources on all aspects of education compiled by the National Library of Canada.
  • Child Trends: Provides research and data about children and families.
  • Forum on Child and Family Statistics: Offers easy access to federal and state statistics and reports on children and their families.
  • Community College and Higher Education Research Links:  Over 2500 web sites related to community college and higher education issues.  The links are collected and maintained by Dr. Joe  Mior of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto.  
  • GEM: The Gateway to Educational Materials: A National Library of Education (NLE) Consortium initiative of Internet-based lesson plans, curriculum units and other educational materials from government, nonprofit, and commercial sites.
  • Key State Education Policies on PK-12 Education: 2004: Council of Chief State School Officers report that informs policymakers and educators about the current status of key education policies across the 50 states that define and shape elementary and secondary education in public schools.
  • Learning Disabilities Online: Information on learning disabilities for teachers and parents.
  • National Center for Education Statistics: The primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the U.S. and other nations. The Center's web site provides access to statistical reports, surveys, projects, "experts" and other web sites on education in America and internationally.
  • Research & Training Center on Family Support and Children's Mental Health: This site contains Data trends, links to sites for children with special needs, and links to many supportive organizations
  • School Psychology Resources Online: a metasite of annotated links to many aspects of school & child psychology.
  • SchoolResults.org: The School Information Partnership is a public-private collaboration designed to empower parents, educators and policymakers to use the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) data to make informed decisions and improve school results.
  • Trends in the Use of School Choice: This report uses data from the National Household Surveys Program (NHES) to present trends that focus on the use of and users of public schools (assigned and chosen), private schools (church- and non church-related), and homeschoolers between 1993 and 2003.
  • U.S. Dept. of Education's Online Library: Information about the offices and programs of the U.S. Dept. of Education (ED), education initiatives of the President and the Secretary, the full text of ED reports and publications, links to organizations, and announcements of current grant opportunities.
